So you may have been home over the last few weeks and working your butt off from your bed, sofa or dining table! So much has changed since working from home has become the status quo. It’s funny how you used to envy those who worked from home and how they could supposedly take a nap or watch something quickly during “working hours”. I am sure over the last few weeks, most of us have seen from talking to other people, that the working from home actually isn’t as much of a walk in the park as we thought it would be! It seems most people are working longer hours with hardly any difference in which day of the week it is! Working from home can be quite challenging, with one the most challenging parts, being not being able to fully separate your work and your home life, now that they are all meshed into one.
With leaving the house being a rare occurrence, decompressing may not come as easily as it did before. We have some tips on how to wind down and decompress!
1) Pry yourself away from the gadgets
I don’t know how it is for you, but I have found that time away from my ever beeping phone can be quite relaxing! Being the busy body that I am, if I have the gadgets in view, I am bound to start fiddling with them! When discipline kicks in, I have found that being away from my gadgets, allows me to surrender, decompress and accept that the world in reality will not burn down in my absence, nor will my company or any others fall into complete and total disarray, because I have put away my gadgets for one hour! I know it sounds hard, but you can do it…go gadget-less for at least one hour to round up your working day. And no, this cannot be whilst you are sleeping!
2) Exercise
Feeling stressed out? Anxious or overwhelmed? Exercise remains one of the most effective ways to get those endorphins pumping to help you decompress at the end of the day. Whether you are into running, walking, yoga or boxing, exercise is often a sure way to help the mind veer away from work and any other stress inducing thoughts. I have found that extra benefits and relaxation can come from doing these activities outdoors! There’s something therapeutic about being in nature that harmonizes the body.
3) Wine O’ clock
I don’t know what your poison is, but there’s something rather therapeutic about pouring yourself a glass of wine after a day of hard work! Rewarding yourself with your beverage of choice, wine, a G&T, or just tea is a great way to give yourself a pat on the back for your days work. It also helps to mentally divide your day between working hours and the much needed leisure hours. Feel free to send over a good bottle of dry red wine and we can show you what it can do!
4) Meditation/Quiet Time
Okay, so OM chanting may or may not be your cup of tea but the concept around meditation can never go wrong. How you go about your meditation is completely up to you. Some choose to meditate based on religious concepts such as an examination of conscience, some choose prayer as a form of meditation and some choose to embrace breathing techniques. Whatever your chosen form, just taking 15 mins for this process can help you decompress and clear your mind of any stress or anxiety.
5) Read!
Have you ever found yourself so immersed in a book or story that you are reading that you feel completely cut off from the world? Find the kind of books that you think are page turners and escape the realities of your life by entering the world painted for you by your favorite authors! Escaping to an imaginary world where you are the multi-billionaire or the asset talented in the highest levels of espionage can be truly exhilarating. Yes, you could listen to an audio book, yes you could read the book from your kindle but nothing beats the feeling of a good ol’ book in your hand and the feel of the pages under your fingers.
6) Take a long bath or shower
Emphasis with this one, is long! Perhaps it’s because my star sign is Cancer, perhaps it’s because I am woman, or perhaps it’s because I am human! A nice hot bath or shower is a sure way to decompress. This is one of my favorites because you can fit in so many little extras to make the experience more enjoyable. I am talking candles, music and yes, a glass of wine! The bathroom is a sacred room and the room you will likely get the least interruption!
7) Enjoy an @Home massage
So we may be a little biased on this one but like it or not, having a massage is still by far, one the best ways to decompress. Yes we know we said these are tips to try at home, and this is exactly it! Calling your favorite mobile massage company, Tumi Wellness, gives you the chance to enjoy all the therapeutic magic of massage from the comfort of your home! The best part about having your masseuse come to you, is that you can go straight from the massage bed, into your
8) Sex
Yes, I did save the best for last! Need I say more? I think not!
